Pope: Gay Marriage Threatens World Peace

on 12-12-2007 22:19

VATICAN CITY  --   Pope Benedict XVI said in a statement Tuesday that abortion, birth control and same-sex marriage are threats to world peace, on the same level as nuclear arms proliferation, environmental pollution and economic inequality.Pope Benedict XVI

In a 15-page message for the World Day of Peace, which will be observed Jan. 1, the pope links sexual and medical ethics to international relations and presents the nuclear family as the "first and indispensable teacher of peace" and the "primary agency of peace."

"Everything that serves to weaken the family based on the marriage of a man and woman, everything that directly or indirectly stands in the way of its openness to the responsible acceptance of new life ... constitutes an objective obstacle on the road to peace," the pope writes.

The pope also warns against what he describes as a global "arms race," and criticizes the U.S. for its handling of Iran's alleged nuclear arms program.

3. Mr.
The news here is being taken out of context. Perhaps a more objective (non-anti-religious) link may be useful. http://www.zenit.org/article- 21252?l=english The pope spoke more about the peace that families provide. Hence, anything that compromises the family compromises the peace that is the gift of a true family. But this Pope's been taken out of context from before Regensberg, so what's new? I see posted a very mocking photo, one of those in-between words shots meant to be used derogatorily. Perhaps if some took the pope seriously for what he actually says, more progree could be made.

5. Re: Mr
Well, you're kind of showing your true colors by using the term "true family". A family with same-sex parents is just as much a "true family" as a family with opposite-sex parents.
