| Bad Week for Gay "Idol" Romances |
We reported yesterday that British "Idol" winner Will Young recently broke up with his long-time boyfriend, Conor. Now it turns out that Australian "Idol" runner up Anthony Callea also has called it quits with his boyfriend of three years, Paul Riggio. "I am officially single as of a week-and-a-half ago," Callea told the Sydney Confidential. "You know ... s--t happens. It's onwards and upwards for me from here." "I am content. I have been in a long-term relationship with my partner, Paul, who has been by my side for the past two and a half years. "Together we have the love and support of our family, friends and peers. I wouldn't have been able to do this without his support," Callea, who came out of the closet in March 2007, said. Callea and Riggio met during production of the 2004 series of Australian Idol, a series which saw Callea perform The Prayer, the highest-selling song in Australian chart history. If you're hoping for a piece of the Australian heartthrob you may already be to late, though. According to News.com.au, Callea has been seen around town with Australian TV host Tim Campbell. Sources in Melbourne have spotted Campbell and Callea on two separate occasions - firstly at a trendy South Yarra bar on Saturday night, then strolling around the Tan on Monday. Callea's manager, Wayne Pilkington, says the guys are just friends. "To suggest Anthony and Tim are anything more than colleagues is totally untrue," he said. Last update: 12-08-2007 20:55
