Tom Hanks: Prop H8 Is 'Un-American'

on 01-19-2009 18:02

 Tom Hanks

Actor Tom Hanks has little love for the Mormon church' involvement in pushing through the California anti-gay marriage amendment Proposition (H)8, something the Oscar winner made very clear while promoting his polygamist-family drama Big Love Sunday.

"The truth is this takes place in Utah, the truth is these people are some bizarre offshoot of the Mormon Church, and the truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen," Hanks told Fox News. "There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American and I am one of them. I do not like to see any discrimination codified on any piece of paper, any of the 50 states in America, but here's what happens now. A little bit of light can be shed and people can see who's responsible and that can motivate the next go around of our self correcting constitution and hopefully we can move forward instead of backwards. So lets have faith in not only the American, but Californian constitutional process."

3. and it's american to defame a religion..
What exactly is un-American about participating in the democratic process? A proposition was put before the people of the state of California, they voted on the proposition, and the proposition passed. That's how a democracy works, the voice of the people is heard. While the LDS religion may be fairly well represented in the state of California, by NO means do they make up more than half of the state's population. A lot of people who aren't Mormon voted for Prop 8 as well, are they all un-American, or just the ones who found religious motivation for their pro- vote? And is it therefore un

4. You missed the point Marco
People voting and passing a proposition is not at issue. What is at issue is the legality of the proposition under the constitution. Many of us in California feel that it is a radical change to the constitution and therefore cannot stand on a simple majority vote. Bringing to light the financial backers of the proposition is consistent with an open democratic process. The whole idea that the majority determines the rights of the minority is thoroughly Un-american.

5. Mormons are very american
What Irony

Tom Hanks, the star in Saving Private Ryan, calls out Moromns for being un-American.

Hey Tommy boy, ever heard of the Borgstrom family of Box Elder Utah?
Yea I didn't think so.

Google them you might learn a thing or two.

This "Mormon" family, lost 4 of their 5 sons serving in WW2 in 1944, within a six month period. A real life Saving Private Ryan story.

By your definition this Mormon family is "Un-American.

What an airhead! Make a movie about this Mormon family and their great American sacrifice and then maybe you will redeem yourself.

While you are at it tell the story of Philo T. Farnsworth the Father and inventor of electronic television, another Un-American Mormon!

Stupid is as Stupid does.
