Jon Stewart Rips Huckabee on Gay Marriage

on 12-11-2008 21:57

Huckabee & Stewart

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart discussed gay marriage with former Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee on his show Wednesday night and ripped holes in Huckabee's argument that gays shouldn't be able to marry because marriage is the bedrock of our society.

Stewart argued that marriage has been constantly redefined in the past 5,000 years, saying "You write that marriage is the bedrock of our society. Why would you not want more couples to buy into the stability of marriage?"

Stewart also questioned Huckabee's argument that homosexuality is a choice, saying "I think it's the difference between what you believe gay people are and what I do ... At What Point Did You Choose Not To Be Gay? ... I'll tell you this: religion is far more of a choice than homosexuality."

2. REALLY Lydia?
Preachers are among the biggest bigots in the USA. If I'm not allowed to marry my monogamous partner of 24 years and have that marriage protected by law, then perhaps I should simply stop paying taxes until I do. (which by the way, churches are tax exempt) The only reason religion has as much hold on this country as it does is because the sheer number of individuals who refuse to think for themselves and question their own spirituality and beliefs. I couldn't care LESS about getting married in a church, as long as my civil rights are honored, along with Lydia's.

3. John Stewart on gay
Stewart believes in gay marriage, if he is not a cartoon guy, doesn't he know that Pastor believe in God's word that it is written in the Holy Bible that it says"marry and multiply". How can a same sex marriage multiply? I'm for the gay couple who could just live together as a couple but marriage? John Stewart and people who support gay marriage will be alright, but I believe that people who are against it that will be okay too. Why is it that Atheist are very vile to the Christians? If they are not a believer (GOD and Jesus) so be it. But they should not harass who voted against gay marriage

Your right, Gods words, as written by man. Harass those who supported Prop8? Poor babies, they asked for every bit of what's being dished back.

5. So.....
"Stewart believes in gay marriage, if he is not a cartoon guy, doesn't he know that Pastor believe in God's word that it is written in the Holy Bible that it says"marry and multiply". How can a same sex marriage multiply?"

So what about when a man or woman in a "straight" relationship is infertile? Should infertile people not be allowed to marry since they cannot multiply? That seems to be the big problem you have with gay marriage. If you believe in those couples using fertility drugs other methods, then why can't gay people be allowed to marry and adopt?
