Ugly Men Have Riskier Gay Sex

on 12-03-2008 20:05

Being less fortunate looking may have consequences

According to researchers at the University of Toronto, being considered sexually undesirable can have serious health consequences for gay men, ranging from psychological issues to risky sexual behavior.

The study, published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, found that undesirable gay men face stigmatization, avoidance and outright rejection, which can lead to depression, anxiety and alcohol abuse. It also highlighted cases whereby undesirable gay men will forgo safe-sex discussion and, in some cases, condom use, in the context of sex with a more attractive partner.

Researcher Adam Isaiah Green interviewed dozens of gay men in Toronto to determine what qualities made some men more sexually desirable than others, and what the consequences of being undesirable might be on mental and physical health.

"I found that young, white, middle-class men are considered much more sexually desirable than men who are racial minorities, over 40 and poor," Green said in a statement. "I also learned that for gay men, being considered sexually undesirable can have serious health consequences, ranging from psychological issues to risky sexual behavior."

1. Use COMMON SENSE!
Use your Common Sense when Racism rears it's ugly head! If Homosexuality is so superfiscious, and based on Race and Financial (Class?) on wheather or not a person is at risk of objectionables, and you can get the stupid to believe it, then the world is at risk of Greater Distruction; The whole Gay world that believes the Canadian Crap that is.

2. The Artical is Ugly!
All Gay People are Beautiful, when not criminal. Using Boy Geoge O'Dowd as the poster boy for your artical is undermining the gay community as a whole. And for a Gay site to do that is offensive to the very core of human difference. Shame on you!

3. The title of this article is UGLY
The title of this article does a great disservice to the point of the research, which was that men who feel unattractive in gay life have increased risks of unsafe sex, NOT that all or even most "ugly" gay men have risky sex and certainly NOT that attractive men don't have unsafe sex...

4. RE: The Artical is Ugly!
ehhh. Boy George IS a criminal (convicted TWICE.) He is also obviously unatractive and has dangerous sex - as evident in his most recent conviction for falsly imprisoning a male escort. HE sounds pretty UGLY to me.

5. What an Ugly thing to say
:x

Why is it that our community seems to only be good at self-hate. Do we not get enough of that kind of thing from the straight community? Ugly people can be ugly on the inside and very appealing to the eye. Much like this article. SHAME ON YOU!!! :eek
