The Osmonds star Donny Osmond is definitely not on our team when it comes to gay marriage. The famous Mormon and former teen idol posted a response on his web site to a fan's question about his stance on gay marriage.
My beliefs about marriage is beautifully stated in The Family - A Proclamation To The World, a document published by the leaders of our church back in 1995. I am going to include it here:
"We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society."
There are many gay individuals that are members of our church. I know many of them. In fact, some of my best friends are gay. You ask how I react regarding their marriages. Well, I do support our Church leaders who say that we can accept those with gay tendencies in our church as long as they do not act upon their temptations. Everyone has tenancies to succumb to temptation, but we all have the same standard given to us by our Father in Heaven. Whether we may be tempted to be immoral with members of our own sex or of the opposite sex, we are expected to live chaste lives. This is very well explained not only in the Book of Mormon, but in the Bible as well.
, Sorry Donny. You have been removed from my Christmas Card list. Those who must keep following religion, stories from the dark ages, keep to your crutch. But stop forcing religion on those fence sitters who are so undecided they know no better. Wake up to the 21st century, open your eyes and see the facts of science. AND BY THE WAY, KEEP YOUR BICYCLE RIDING, DOOR KNOCKING BIBLE THUMPING MISSIONARIES OFF MY DOORSTEP! AND MY CHOICE TO MARRY OR NOT. IT'S MY DECISION!
sounds like hiding behind the 'church' if you ask me, how can you say some of your best friends are GAY and not want them to be themselves, do they act different around YOU than around any of 'their other friends'? If the 'church' excepts "them' but expects 'them' to not act on their feelings isn't that just like telling them to stay in the closet and just lie - ... I expected more openess of a man raised in such a large loving family I wounder how you'd react if one of your childern or one of your MANY neice / nephews were gay ... would they be kicked out of church / or family
I appreciate Donny's honesty. He has a right to believe how he pleases. The voters of California have spoken and we should respect that. I'm gay and I don't care about marriage. I view marriage as a heterosexual. None of us ever expected to get married in the gay life style that most of us live. I don't want kids and I've always view kids with marriage. Can we just drop the marriage issue...I'm sick of it.
