Sean Penn Wanted More Gay Sex

Sean Penn & James Franco

James Franco, Sean Penn's co-star in the Harvey Milk biopic, "Milk," reveals in a new interview that Penn pushed the gay sex scenes in "Milk" further than he expected.

"In the original script I read, there was only one real kissing scene," Franco tells next month's Elle. "A month after [director] Gus [Van Sant] asked me to do it, they sent me another script, and on Page 5 there was a full-on love scene. And I was like, 'Gus, what the heck?' He says, 'Well, it was Sean's idea.' "

In another interview, Franco tells Newsweek that he found it a bit weird to do the nude scenes in the movie, because everybody else was fully clothed: "I've shown my ass in other movies. That scene in particular felt a little weird. It's one thing if everybody is naked. It's another thing if everyone is in suits and you're the naked guy."

Milk opened in 10th place at the box office this weekend, raking in $1.8 million at 36 theaters nationwide. The distribution will increase to 60 theaters on Friday. By comparison, Brokeback Mountain brought in $547,425 in its opening weekend, though limited to five theaters.
