Did Jodie Foster Come Out?

on 12-06-2007 01:40

Hollywood is abuzz with whether or not Jodie Foster has come out of the closet after she thanked her "beautiful Cydney" during her acceptance speak when receiving the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award Tuesday.Jodie Foster © Albert L. Ortega / PR Photos

In her speak, Foster thanked "my beautiful Cydney who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss." Cydney is presumed to be Cydney Bernard, the woman who is widely reported to be her life partner.

The two-time Oscar winner was funny and heart-warming during the speech, which brought some in attendance at the Beverly Hills Hotel to tears, Daily News reports.

Foster characterized herself as a "professional" and a "gentleman." But she also said that after working in entertainment for 42 years, "there's no way you can do that and not be as nutty as a fruitcake."

"I always feel like something of an impostor. I don't know what I'm doing," she said. "I suppose that's my one little secret, the secret of my success."

Foster seems to have been taking small steps towards coming out in recent months. In an interview with More magazine in September the interviewer commented on the Tiffany ring she was wearing, and Foster acknowledged it was an eternity ring that she never takes off, but refused to elaborate further. Later the same month, she used the word "partner" when commenting on her acting career to The Denver Post, saying, "I need to have something that doesn't belong to my mom, doesn't belong to my kids, doesn't belong to my partner."

The picture is from Sunday when Jodie, who is the mother of two children, attended the Trevor Project's Cracked Xmas 10 Benefit in support of the hotline which helps young GLBT people in danger of committing suicide.

:) I think folks are grasping at staws trying to make a story of nothing. When Jody refers to a beautiful person, why can't we accept it as a litteral metafor to inner beauty. Sister Teressa is a beautiful person. Bill Cosby is a beautiful person. Jody's reference to "partner" can also be litteral. My partner, past, present or future. Husband, best freind, mentor, can all be partners in life. I fail to see why our society is so sick that people try to make a story out of nothing. I applaud Jody as a mother and a talented actor.

2. conservative what?
It really is hard to take anything someone says seriously or afford it any amount of respect when what is said (typed) is so poorly spelled. Surely, conservative, you can plainly see that Ms. Foster's first name is spelled J-O-D-I-E; that was your first blunder. Now I have to wonder if you meant what you said, or are just giving your fingers a workout.

3. Conservative spelling
Spelling is the least of your problems. A "literal metaphor" (I corrected the spelling for you)?? "Inner beauty" is a metaphor and there is nothing literal about any metaphor, sweetheart. The literal meaning of 'beauty" is just that--beauty.

Perhaps Jodie stayed in the closet a bit too long. But that was her choice. I admire her efforts to come out in small, definitive steps without granting the media any dramatic "Lance-like" confession. It's her life, but she is finally giving us all very clear glimpses into it. If you can't see and appreciate what she's doing, you're the one in the dark.
