| HRC - The Joe Solmonese Show |
The nation's largest gay and lesbian rights organization is under scrutiny for being more focused on getting exposure for its leader, Joe Solmonese, than it is focusing on leading the fight for gay and lesbian rights. Some say the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) kept a surprisingly low profile during the fight for gay marriage equality in California, and that while other organizations spent millions fighting against the gay marriage ban, HRC spent little money and effort on the fight. When the organization did step forward, it seemed more focused on promoting its leader Joe Solmonese than it was fighting for gay rights. Emails sent to the organization's members routinely have Solmonese's name in the headline and all public appearances are spearheaded by the powerful leader. The recent grassroot protests against Proposition 8 around the country were not organized by the organization, and questions are being asked if the organization has played out its role in this country. What do you think? Should HRC be looking for a new president, or is the organization still relevant? Last update: 11-20-2008 21:35
