Kevin Spacey Denounces Prop 8

on 11-20-2008 13:04

Closeted boy spanker Kevin Spacey spoke up against Prop 8 the other day, saying "there's no doubt that election night was a bittersweet night. But in some ways, these kinds of setbacks allow for a bigger fight, more challenges, and eventually we're going to get it right."

Spacey also commented on Elton John's assertion that civil unions ought to do:

"Well, I haven't heard what Elton has said about it, and I don’t really know the particular laws in London with respect to whether they just have civil unions or…Look, I think at the end of the day, if people are given rights, and the same basic rights that any individual is given, then we are in fact honoring the Constitution of the United States. Anything less than that is unfair."

1. Let's not bash our supporters
The reference to the "Croatian incident" is a low blow. It's well-known by now that those shocking pictures were shamlessly faked.

I think we should just be grateful to Kevin for his generous support. If he doesn't take that opportunity for coming out, that must be for some strong reason. One of them might be that he's actually not gay... I tend to think that he woudn't have accepted to speak out otherwise.

2. SPACEY FINALLY SAID IT VERY WELL
At a time when all of us should be fighting for unity, dignity and equality, we are fighting to use a label instead of our basic constitutional rights as human beings. Forget the word "marriage." Call it something it REALLY is, ie. a "blessed union." But, our laws need to honor and support all aspects of that relationship as it has for many year in heterosexual marriage. The word marriage does not guarantee faithfulness or family values. It is a label used to assure certain rights between two people. Forget that word. Fight for equal rights for ALL human being regardless of gender.
