ManHunt Founder: Don't Call Me A Liberal!

on 08-13-2008 14:06

Manhunt.net founders Larry Basile and Jonathan Crutchley

Manhunt.net founders Larry Basile and Jonathan Crutchley have earned millions of dollars on helping gay men hooking up for sex but the founders feel insulted if someone calls them liberals, Towleroad.com reports.

According to an article in OUT magazine, ManHunt.net is pulling in more than $30 million a year and some of that money is being used to support John McCain's campaign to become the next US president.

After Huffington post reported on the $2,300 contribution made by Crutchley to the McCain campaign, Crutchley defended his contribution in the comments section of an old interview.

I just read that Jonathan Crutchley is a liberal republican that has donated to John MCCain's campaign, another gay republican donating to people who don't believe in equal rights for gay men and women, in particular gay adoption, gay marriage or civil unions...I am so disappointed.

Dear Roger:
Welcome to the age of the internet, where everyone's private life becomes public. Yes, my contribution to John McCain's campaign for president was listed on the Huffington Post. I believe McCain will be a better commander-in-chief than Obama, who also opposes gay marriage. If we have an experienced, seasoned person defending the country in this dangerous age, we will be able to argue about the gay agenda later. Yes, I am a Massachusetts Republican, which is about the same as being an Alabama Democrat. But don't call me a "liberal." That's an insult.

We love how the founder of a porn/hook-up site seems annoyed about "the age of the internet, where everyone's private life becomes public."

UPDATE! Crutchley stepped down as chairman of Manhunt as of August 15. Here's a statement from ManHunt:

"It should be known that Jonathan Crutchley's donation to McCain left the entire Board in disbelief. I am disappointed that we have lost some customers, and I understand the anger. It is too bad for the web site if we lose customers, but PLEASE never refer to me as a Republican. I consider it an offense.

"Earlier today, at the request of the Board, Jonathan has stepped down as Chairman. Sincerely, Larry Basile."

3. Seriously?
Does anyone really care what some guy does with his own personal money? I don't think summary judgment is warranted in this case. I personally like the site -- and I'd rather put my efforts towards boycotting McCain, too!

4. Not private
Although we could note that contributions to a political campaign are not "private business."

5. Donation to McCain
The donation did not come to manhunt.net, but from Cruthley himself from his own personal funds.

are you boycotting gasoline stations and not using your car because oil executives make contributions to republican campaigns? No, you arent. so dont be hipocrites.

I am certain they the money donated by Crutchley to gay organizations and causes DWARFS the 2k he sent to McCain.
