Christian Soriano Disses The Trannies?

Does well-deserved Project Runway winner Christian Soriano find trannies and drag queens trashier than other gays? We don't really think so - or at least not in a bad way - but the fashion designer just compared trannies and drag queens with white-trash women and trailer parks.

"Drag has always been part of our experience and always will be. What is its everlasting appeal? Why won’t it ever die?," Time Out asked a panel of prominent gays in a Q&A session.

"If you think of heterosexuals, they have white-trash women and trailer parks, and we have drag queens and trannies. I don't know if I'm the one who can explain it. It's, like, drag queens are just there," Christian Soriano answered.

But Soriano is no drag-queen hater: "I love To Wong Foo! It's so good, so fabulous."

Soriano also revealed that he's not a big fan of going out: "It's hard for me to go out. People either want to ignore me or touch me and pick me up like a little pocket gay. But I'm more into trashy bars and gay house parties and little events."

So, trannies are equated with white trash and trailer parks? Why isn't the GLBT community pitching a fit about this blatant ignorance. I know no one takes Christian seriously, but that is part of the problem. He gets to make ugly comments like this without any consequences. Transgender people are -- HUMAN BEINGS -- you know, the kind deserving of respect and dignity. It is amazing to me that there is so much prejudice within our own community, so much so that we've made it acceptable to ridicule transgender people and drag queens.

Some Transsexual women are attracted to other women - they were assigned male at birth, but have vaginas now, so does that make them straight or lesbian?

Some Transsexual women are attracted to men - they were assigned male at birth, but have vaginas now, so does that make them gay or straight?

To say that Transsexuals are gays no matter who they're attracted to seems to make a mockery of the whole concept.

I'm guessing the reason this twit doesn't like going out is because he knows he's a bigot and might get what all bigots deserve. Instead he can go to trashy parties and be useless. Just means there are others like him out there and they hang out together, where all trash belongs.

Clearly this bigot fits under the transgender term based on how he looks, acts and dresses. So by his own views that makes him a white trashy trailer park freak.

So just where are the lesbian and gay organisations on this twit. Why aren't they going after him like they do with the right wing religious zelots bigot

So, where did this little guy learn to speak from his posterior?

O, he doesn't think? He just creates? Gays dont HAVE trannies. They have xtian.

Being somewhat cache in a very small, very changeable circle doesn't obviate the need for someone to develop his brain and actually educate himself just a wee bit before he responds to a question that wasn't about trans people at all.

This is why gay-men have such a hard time convincing the rest of us that they have any understanding of lesbians, Bis Ts, ISes, Queers, or Questioning people. Maybe one of you Men can educate him in LBGTIQ?

He apologized, but I think people are overreacting. One of these responses said something like, "equating trannies to white trash?" Like talking about white trash is OK too? We should apologize to white trash! They have feelings too. We should apologize to the person who coined the phrase "trannie", as he used these words in a context the creator didn't intend. We should take down ads where women wear scarfs with checkered print. We need to seek out hypocrites who pretend they never say careless things. I understand carelessness in the public eye can be dangerous. But... simmer down now!
