Gossip Girl fans have been waiting with anticipation for yesterday's episode of the CW teen soap which featured the coming out of one of the series' main characters.

One of the show's most sympathetic characters, Eric van der Woodsen (Connor Paolo), told his friends he was gay and that he had made out with Asher Hornsby, another of the male characters on the show.

The identity of the rumored gay character has been known for a while - Kelly Rutherford, who plays Eric's mother, Lily van der Woodsen, revealed the secret during an interview a couple of weeks ago.
