Openly gay actor T.R. Knight took part in a ceremony at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex in Los Angeles Thursday night to talk about the National Day of Silence, which was celebrated in 6,800 schools around the country Friday.
Sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to help combat bullying and harassment of gays in schools, students across the country took a vow of silence Friday.
Knight talked about Lawrence King, the 15 year old who was brutally gunned down by another student because he was gay, and about Simmie Williams, Jr., the young teen that was killed in Florida because he was wearing a dress.
He also talked about how it was to grow up and feel different than everybody else and how straight men often feel intimidated by us. "Straight guys feel so threatened by us - look at me, I'm not going to hurt you!," the actor said.
