Anna Nicole Smith's lawyer and former lover Howard K. Stern says in an interview that he has been going through a very tough year and that it's all taking a financial toll on him.

In the new issue of Us Weekly, Stern says that since the passing of his partner (and only client) in February, he is having trouble making ends meet. "I am in debt and basically broke," Stern, 38, tells Us magazine. "There's this impression out there that I am somehow making money off of Anna's death. It couldn't be further from the truth."

Stern has filed a $60 million libel suit against author Rita Cosby for alleging in a book that he engaged in homosexual acts with the father of Anna's baby Dannielynne, Larry Birkhead. But due to "juggling" more than a dozen other lawsuits, Stern says he owes his parents "hundreds of thousands of dollars."
