NEW YORK CITY, NY -- The queen of all queens, Madonna, finally received her deserved place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night, and the pop goddess was celebrated by her peers in an extravagant event at The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Justin Timberlake told the audience that "The world has always been full of Madonna wannabes and I might have even dated a couple. She has still found time to kiss someone I may or may not have publicly kissed myself while I was in the audience. Of course you know I was talking about Sean Penn."
Timberlake told a story about Madonna's kick-ass work ethics. While working on her new album Hard Candy, he had come to the studio one day feeling ill, and Madonna suggested a shot of vitamin B12. She didn't call a doctor, he said. She took a Zip-Loc bag of B12 syringes from her designer bag, said, "Drop 'em," gave him the shot, and added, "Nice top shelf." Mr. Timberlake said, "That was one of the greatest days of my life."
During her acceptance speech, Madonna upped her Rock & Roll cred by calling the audience "motherfuckers" and talking about her past wild days. She said she dropped a tab of ecstasy with Sire Records executive Michael Rosenblatt after she gave him her demo tape.
Madonna also paid tribute to Liz Rosenberg, who has been her publicist for her entire career: "Does anybody understand the insanity of being my publicist for the last 25 years? Well... I think Liz was smoking a joint when I first met her. Yeah. I walked into her office and she very politely stubbed it out in the ashtray. [...] Anyway, we hit it off right away. She was my kind of girl -- tough, irreverent and funny -- and we've had a long and amazing chunk of time together. After dealing with all the nutcases she's had to deal with and putting out all the fires she's had to put out, it's kind of amazing that she's not shooting up heroin."
Madonna didn't perform, but Iggy Pop performed "Burning Up" and "Ray of Light."
