| "The L Word" Goes Into Retirement |
LOS ANGELES, CA -- Showtime Networks has renewed the popular lesbian drama "The L Word" for one more season, but after the sixth season finishes its run next year, the show is going into retirement, the cable channel revealed Monday. The fifth season of "The L Word," which follows a group of Los Angeles-based friends, is set to debut later this month. When the show wraps up next year, it will have been one of the longest running programs in cable TV history. And even though "The L Word" retires from TV, series creator and executive producer Ilene Chaiken says the show will live on. "This is by no means the end of 'The L Word,"' she said. "The brand and the social network community, OurChart.com, will continue to live and be a destination for lesbians everywhere and a lasting tribute to what 'The L Word' has accomplished."
