How 'Out' Are You at Work or School? Does anybody know you are gay? Do you care if they know or not? Do you think it will matter one way or the other? Share your thoughts.

How long did it take to come up with a question like that...?
Was it a tremendous strain on you psyche ?

What's wrong with asking questions?
It's interesting to see what other people think.
And I'm only out to family and a few friends, as bisexual.

I was not out in school at all. I went to Catholic elementarry school and an all boys high school. However it was not hard to find who was like me and we kept our sex lives to our selves. I guess I was afraid of getting beat up as I know there were a few Gay Bashers in our school.

In actuality, it comes down to what you're willing to risk. In the society I'm in, being gay is looked down upon. Abortions, essentially unheard of.
I'm not out there at all at school, there are gay bashers there are kids winding up in the hospital, there are "angry mob" situations all the time. I know I'm not exactly amazing for not subjecting myself to that, but doesn't it also come down to fear? Fear of acceptance, fear of what other people actually think?
Within my school I am gay, and nobody knows it. A simple, and ultimately complex secret regarded with caution. In a sense I'm extremely out there, but not in the sense of being gay. I dealt with computers, I'm the 'nerd' and I already get enough crap for that? To demand respect for being smart with computers is one thing, requiring the bending of rules, or simple tricks to complex systems to help people, or to simply keep them in check. Being gay, honestly is so much harder for me to deal with, simply because of social acceptance, and I know I should rely on what other people think, or say. But no matter what, what they think, and say will get to you at some level.
