Dreams appear to operate on many levels. Sometimes they are a way of bringing to our attention something that we've noticed unconsciously during the previous day. At other times they can work as metaphors, using symbols and imagery that can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves. Ann Faraday's books 'Dream Power' or 'The Dream Game' are a useful resource.
You might consider writing down the details of your dreams when you wake and mulling over them during the day. Look at how they might relate to events of the day before. Focus particularly on the feelings that your dream-self experiences. It's quite possible that the straight friend may represent some wider issue in your life such as a desire to find acceptance in a straight society while still retaining your individual sexual identity.
Another approach would be to be up-front with the guy: tell him he has featured in your dreams and ask for his opinion. If you put him on the spot (without endangering yourself) both his attitude and your own should become clearer. Best of luck, mate.
