Because there are people flooding and all....

There are many alternative options available to chatroom users...Someone is flooding ? Redline...Someone is bashing redline...The Republican administration is intrusive and attempting to censor everything involving gays...The religious right wishes to do the same... So what you as a gay do ? You come here looking for support to have a moderator in the chatroom...No matter what you call it...Moderator = Censorship...The problem lies with the chatroom users themselves...You have to understand the psyche of bashers and flooders...They bash and flood to get attention...
I have been going to bgay on an off for a number of years...And all the time I have been telling people that the only way to stop the troublemakers is to not fight back...They love when you fight back...It validates their raison d'tre...Whenever the guys did ignore and redline, the bashers and flooders leave ...Me ? I just redline...The only ones that I don't redline are the ones that bash me personally...works out...I laugh and they make fools of themselves....Don't take chatrooms too seriously...Try ignoring...You would be surprised how you can make a difference....As for now ? I am looking forward to my personal basher to come to this forum and show me how fucking absurd he can me...Ciao

Well Tony I can understand your arguments against moderators. and for the most part your suggestions on how to combat bashers and abusers is good - however, its the only weapon a chatter can use if there is no moderator.
Suggestions to ignore, redline and tolerate bashers does work wonders...however, we all have different personalities and many dont have the ability to laugh it off, and/or ignore. some are unable or unwilling or incapable of ignore.
No I must disagree with you Tony. I see no reason for NOT having room moderators.
If the site has a list of do's and donts. as does this website. then rules are useless if not enforced.
Yes, I am biased, yes I have and continue to be bashed. the occasional bashing is no problem. but I have seen consistent and concerted attacks. attacks that have stopped other ppl from chatting, forced ppl to leave chat, and these attacks have been night after night, for weeks - and they are very personal, including slandering other family members, and posting in the main room names, phone numbers, addresses, and email addys.
emails to admin remain unanswered to this day.
no - moderators would NOT censor speech or thought. they would enforce the website and chatroom rules, to which, all agree to abide by, when they log in.

I am not as new to chatrooms as you are. I have been to chatrooms that have moderators and not all moderators are unbiased.I have been in chatrooms that had newly hired moderators. They were ok at the beginning but as time went on they became ethnocentric (judging people by their own standards)
Soon they were banning chatters for the most inane reasons. Also I have seen moderators become close friends with certain chatters and also do their bidding. Learn to deal with the demons in an intelligemt manner. From what I have seen, the problem is you have had poor judgement and gave too much personal information to guys in the room. If you give some gays
too much information, believe me, that information will come back to haunt you.
Unless you had wished to appeal to the prurient nature of some guys in the room, what reason did you have to let people know that you had a wife and kids. Many times I have seen guys react in a nasty manner when it came to married guys.
And many times I have seen guys turn on married guys.
This post is not meant to insult you or hurt you, it is only to inform you about the other side of the gay chatroom coin.
Also, I guarantee, that if Bgay had a moderator, with so many guys against you, you would have been the one to be banned. The attitude would be "Could so many people be wrong" ?
Oh, by the way. Have a nice day.

I will reply to this at another time. Or not at all. But basically - whats the point. And who really cares, anyways.
I'm not naive. Just dont believe in jungle rule, survival of the strongest.
Its always interesting that those at the top of the heap cant see the need for change. Enough said.

If you redline someone and they know they have been redlined, they simply logout and back in. Sometimes over and over to flood the screen with 'This user has entered Men Only / This user has left DigiChat / This user has moved to Teens Only ' ... this is done often. All they do is leave when redlined and come back in. Or they are already logged in twice.
When you redline them, it does not stop them giving out personal information about you that you may have given, like your email address. Moderators can threaten to boot them and have them banned for 24 hours or whatever.
I know that a ChatMaster does be logged in, but may not be looking all the time, maybe s/he is the only one that logs into the room to look after it. But they do not speak. Which is kinda lame.
I believe the room needs a moderator from America, Europe and Australia. To cover most time zones.

Agreed Gaeilge.
Be nice if some other chatters would venture an opinion.
It is this apathy that maintains the status quo -
seemingly supports opinions such as that of Tony NYC -
and results in postings, or lack there of ... to this thread.
Its like bgay itself. A game. And discussion in forums like this provides the website administration with a vehicle that seemingly allows participation by users/chatters/ppl - but is ignored.
Its just a "ruse".

chat rooms are the same as life. not everyone gets along. we are all entitled to a point of view. i chose to ignore, or even laugh at bashers. look at it as entertainment. why take it personally?

I tried to get into bGay chat this morning and keep getting a pop-up window saying Join bGay forums for password. This never happened before. The bGay site doesn't tell you how to join?

There is only one person who needs to be moderated and that is YOU DDave. By far you are the worst person to ever walk into bgay. All you do is create trouble so YOu are the center of attention. Time to grow up DDave. just grow up

I remember when this site was used as a means to either inform or to improve conditions at bgay. It was many times used to help gays that needed solace or advice because they didn't have anyone to go to. Yet in a matter of a few weeks Dave851 has used this format as a platform for his vile, immature attacks on bgay chatters...From what I have seen, I would think that Dave851 should either do some soul searching and return to bgay as an amicable chatter and disregard the bashings or leave chat completely. He wants Bgay to restrict everything just because he is having a problem dealing with his fall from grace. This problem should be dealt with in his offline life which seems like where his social problems emanated from. Leave the Forum alone and let it exist for what it was meant, that is to inform and to let others know that we are united to help each other and not to put each other down. In other words ? Stop bringing The Forum down to a sub-standard level.

The idea is not to tell people that you are redlining them...Just do it and they will think they are being ignored...
James
December 31st, 2006, 07:21 AM
Even redlining does not work on some of them. Especially those with more nicks than fingers and toes. Fact of the matter is, what exactly is the worse they can do to you? Nothing. Except maybe type you to death. Big deal. Let 'em. Just laugh at them and go on. Happy New Year!

Actually, I was referring to the prior comment about threads being "smothered", not about redlining unpleasant chatters with whom I have no trouble dealing with. But thanks anyway :)

I say yes...there should be moderators in the room.
Not all people know how to redline, and those who don't know how to redline in DigiChat, will try and start fights with the flooder/basher.
I know that ya'll probably don't want someone telling you what you can say and can not say, but thats up to the Site Owner.
Moderators don't make up the rules, they just enforce the rules. As it stands, the only reason given for hiring up a few moderators, is to handle some flooders and bashers. So, that would probably be the only rules. Besides those two, there would be a few basic rules. Like enforcing Age Limits. That is a BIG issue. I'm sure none of you would like some 11 or 12 year old coming into the room talking about nasty things. Unless you're a paedo. Then you'd just be banned cause thats illegal.
Anyway, I say yes, hire moderators. But I hope the Site Admin makes up some good rules that will please everyone.
