"Brokeback Mountain" is the most talked about gay movie in years, maybe ever. Did you see it? And if so, did you like it?

It shows the societal pressures on gay men to conform. Will have a great impact on hetero understanding of gay pressures

Brokeback Mountain is more than the sum of its parts, as they say. Its parts are incredible ... from the Brando-esque Heath Leger, to the cowboy puppy-dog cute Jake Gyllenhaal. The best thing about their acting is that they transcend their own personalities to "become" Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist. But, more, this movie is a study of contrasts. The stunningly beautiful wide-open spaces are contrapositioned next to scenes of Ennis' tight cramped apartment over a laudromat when he is in a relationship with an erstwhile wife that is suffocating even the notion of a life with Jack Twist out on Brokeback somewhere. The relative enthusiasm of Jack for a "life together," is contrasted by Ledger's Ennis, full of emotion but only hinted at in subtle grunts, twists of the corner of his mouth, and bowed head. This performance is one of stunning power in all its subtlety.

For people of a certain age, this movie is historic. After having to live through the days when the best Hollywood could do was do a screen version of the hit play, "Boys in the Band" -- we know we've come a long, long, way. You see, "Boys in the Band" was about the time and kind of gay man that had self-hatred problems. Brokeback is about love, in its grandest, most hopeful, and most intimate expressions. Ennis and Jack did not so much hate themselves, but hated the situation they found themselves in ... a time and place where expressing their love for each other would be a fatal decision.

I think it is a good idea for anyone to get some history before being able to truly appreciate and enjoy Brokeback for all that it is ... rent Boys in the Band, Cruising, and other gay-themed movies from the 70's in particular. The first commercial gay films (Band, and Cruising) were horrible depictions of gays ... but reflective of the times. See those first, then see Brokeback. You will be stunned by the simple honesty of Brokeback, and your heart will ache for the fact that love must go largely unexpressed. And, when your heart muscle aches, there is always something to learn.

Hi, everyone, I seen 'Brokeback Mountain' in the theatre. I had to hold in my tears of sadness cause I was thinking about Logan (died June 1/05). I loved the movie & could relate to not being able to express my love to Logan cause Logan & I never had the chance to meet in person. We were online bfs 8months before he died from kidney failure. After the movie was over, I walked home thinking of Logan. When I got home, I cried for a good 30mins non stop. Shortly after I seen the movie, I bought the story of 'Brokeback Mountain', again I teared up thinking of Logan. When the DVD of 'Brokeback Mountain' came out I bought it, again I teared up.
I think the cast did a good job with the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal is hot, those eyes are so memorizing. Jake is a good actor, he's got talent. Heath is a good actor as well. Michelle & Anne are good actresses. The Scenery was beautiful.
