G'day mate,
My blood runs cold when I read this. Yes, you should be worried, very worried.
His violence towards you appears to be escalating. You should put your own safety and preservation first. As a priority you should consider an escape route. This means you need to tell selected friends and family as they're the most likely ones to offer the shelter and support that you may need.
There is absolutely no excuse for violence within a relationship. Certainly love should not be given as an excuse, either for dishing it out or for tolerating it. If you love him then the best thing you can do for him is to try to help him to address his issues, but only after ensuring your own safety first. Professional help is required. This problem is not at all uncommon within gay relationships.
Be safe, buddy
