As a 45/yo gay man living with HIV I can't help but be OUTRAGED that the FDA has granted approval to a new "Bird Flu Virus" vaccine. The recent worries about
Bird Flu started in 2003 - just 4 short years ago (I don't mean to imply you can't do math). Correct me if I'm wrong but HIV/AIDS began 27 years ago. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES? Are they making too much money simply keeping us alive with their expensive meds to worry about a vaccine (or, God forbid) a cure?
I assume they think we're all limp-wristed fags that'll be happy for whatever they give us? I think, when we all stand up and say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH," something might get done.

the reason that they have not come up with a vacine or a cure is becaue HIV/AIDS is a virus that rapidly changes. It changes so fast that nothing we have now can keep up. The other reason is that our body does not even know its there and when it figures it out the virus actually counteracts the immune system response. so in that sense a vaccine would not work even if they did have one. Your immune system would have to be able to recognise and kill the virus which it is unable to do. The only thing a vaccine can do is prep you system to fight something off, not make it do something it is unable to do in the first place. as for a cure.... There is a great deal of research going on right now to figure out why some prostitutes in africa have been found to be immune to aids! so far they have foinf that their cells lack one of the protiene receptors that the aids virus needs to recognise before it attaches to your cells to multiply. i would suggest you do some research as to what a vacine is and how fast they can be made and why they work for some things but not others.
