Dear Lefty,

You’re not giving us the whole story. The facts as you relay them are insufficient grounds for a dismissal. If you belong to a Union you should be discussing this with your Union Representative. If you are wrongfully dismissed you can win substantial damages. If you don’t belong to a Union you could look for an Employment Solicitor who will undertake to represent you on the basis that you only pay him if he wins the case.

If you’ve given long and faithful service to your current employer then don’t leave there without a good reference. You’ll have many skills that can transfer readily into other positions; don’t be scared to think laterally or to take the opportunity to go for the job you’ve always wanted but have never dared attempt before. Retraining or further education might be another possibility. This could be an opportunity in disguise. Often being in an extreme position gives us the guts to take a risk.

I sincerely hope you’re not still providing a roof over his head for the cute snake-in-the-grass.

Good luck, mate
