I'm 18 and am a senior in High
School. I'm having trouble coming out. There is another guy in our High
School band with me who is openly gay. Over the
past year, my mother has mentioned how when he tried out for drum major
that they wouldn't know whether to put him in a uniform or a dress.
She recently
asked me whether I was gay or not since I've never had a girlfriend.
After trying to remain silent, I told her I was straight to get out of
the conversation. But I feel so guilty. To make matters worse, I've had
a crush on the guy I mentioned above for two years and I know for a fact
that he has a boyfriend too. I have no idea what to do. Please help me!
I would send an e-mail address but I don't have one of my own and I
don't want this showing up in my parents' mail box.

If your mom asked you already, she may have a
pretty good idea about your sexuality. So that may make it easier
for you to come out to her. It does not matter if you already
told her a lie, you can always tell her you were not ready to come
out. She will understand sooner or later. Just know that once you
come out it is going to be hard on everybody. They may accept
you or they may not. Families my accept you or they may not.
You have to be ready for this and once you do it, you will be glad
you did. However, you have to be very strong to confront the
issue with everyone. Here is a link that may help you with
your decision. Good luck!
