NEW YORK CITY, NY -- During an appearance at
Columbia University Monday, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made
the audience laugh out loud by saying that "Iran does not have
homosexuals."
Ahmadinejad was asked about the widely documented government abuse of
women and homosexuals in his country and first tried to avoid the
question by referring to the death penalty in the United States.
When moderator Dean Coatsworth reissued the question, specifying the
sexuality aspect of it, the Iranian leader said, "In Iran, we dont have
homosexuals like in your country. We dont have that in our country. In
Iran, we do not have this phenomenon. I do not know who has told you
that we have it."
The audience of more than 600 people broke into laughter and began
booing the Iranian leader.
Of course, what Ahmadinejad may have meant is that Iran doesn't have any
homosexuals because the Iranian government executes all gays as soon as
they find them...
