Whoopi on The View

Barbara Walters has announced that Whoopi Goldberg will replace Rosie O'Donnell on ABC's daytime talk show "The View" starting this Fall. Whoopi has already guest hosted several times during the summer and it has been predicted for a while that she would take over after Rosie.

"I have known Whoopi for years. She is brilliant, funny and irrepressible, and is an enormously popular and talented star," creator Barbara Walters says of Goldberg. "We are delighted that she is going to join the programme as our moderator. This is going to be a great new chapter for The View."

Goldberg will join on Sept. 4, the start of the show's 11th season, ABC, a unit of Burbank, California-based Walt Disney Co., said today in an e-mailed statement.
