Isaiah Washington to do Gay Rights PSA
'Grey's Anatomy' star Isaiah Washington will
appear in a public service announcement on behalf of the Gay & Lesbian
Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight
Education Network (GLSEN) in an attempt to rebut his embattled image as
a homophobe.
"We're
gonna have — I want to say at least two versions of it at this point. We
may broaden our message a little," Washington's publicist, Howard
Bragman, told The Associated Press Wednesday.
Washington, 43, called co-star T.R. Knight a "faggot" while arguing with
another cast member, Patrick Dempsey, on the set of 'Grey's Anatomy' in
October. He also used the word during a press happening at the Golden
Globes in January.
T.R. Knight decided to come out of the closet following the incident.
After being criticized by GLAAD, Washington issued an apology and sought
counseling. Bragman said ABC, which is owned by The Walt Disney Co., was
planning to shoot the ad in the next few weeks.
Bragman said Washington plans to return to 'Grey's Anatomy' next year.
"We've heard nothing to the contrary, and we have no plans to the
contrary," Bragman said.
