Gays Would End Human Race, Poland's
President Says
DUBLIN, IRELAND -- During a recent state
visit, Poland's President Lech Kaczynski told a shocked Irish government
that the human race "would disappear if homosexuality was freely
promoted."
"Imagine what grand changes would occur in mores if the traditional
links between men and women were set aside," the President continued.
The
Polish Embassy in Dublin declined to comment on the president's views.
Irish Labour Party spokeswoman Joan Burton said the President's remarks
were "a pity, given people's efforts to remove crass and gross
discrimination".
Gay Irish Sen. David Norris, who was one of the arcitects behind the
decriminalization of homosexuality in Ireland in 1993, called the
comments "ignorant, unsophisticated and a disgrace to the European
community."
An interesting sideline about the story is that the President's twin
brother, Poland's Prime Minister, was recently outed after documents
from the Polish Secret Service were declassified.
