George Michael Pleads Not Guilty
LONDON, UK -- British pop icon George Michael
pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of driving under the influence
and for possession of marijuana. Police filed the charges after they
found Michael passed out in his car.
Michael's pledge was brought forward in the court by his attorney, Keima
Payton, and Michael did not attend the hearing. The judge had earlier
excused Michael from personally having to attend to the hearing.
Payton
argued to get all charges against Michael dropped, claiming the blood
samples taken from Michael on the night of his arrest were not legal.
Judge Katherine Marshall asked Payton if the "prosecution should not
take place because it is unfair?"
"Indeed," Payton answered.
The judge set arguments for March 7 for the parties to discuss whether
or not to admit the blood samples taken from Michael.
