Diana's Death Deemed a 'Tragic Accident'
LONDON, UK -- British police released an
inquiry Thursday that concludes the car crash which killed Princess
Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed in Paris in 1997 was an accident and that
all the allegations of foul play are unfounded.
“Our conclusion is that, on all the evidence available at this time,
there was no conspiracy to murder any of the occupants of the car. This
was a tragic accident,” said Lord John Stevens, who led the
investigation into the couple's death.
Diana,
Dodi, and their driver Henri Paul were killed when their car slammed
into the wall of the Pont d’Alma tunnel in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997, while
being chased by paparazzi.
Stevens’ report is hardly going to calm down the rumors and conspiracy
theories surrounding the death of the British princess but it will allow
an inquest into Diana’s death finally to get under way.
The inquest will formally resume next year under judge Dame Elizabeth
Butler-Sloss with preliminary hearings being held in the beginning of
January at the Royal Courts of Justice.
