Pastor Ted Haggard Admits to Massage,
Crystal Meth
DENVER, COLORADO -- Pastor Ted Haggard
admitted Friday that he on one occasion bought crystal meth and received
a massage from a gay prostitute, but denied that he had sex with the
man.
Mike Jones, the 49-year-old Denver man who raised the allegations this
week, quickly refuted Haggards denial.
Shortly after Haggard told reporters outside his home, "I bought it for
myself but never used it. I was tempted, but I never used it, Jones
told MSNBC that Haggard snorted meth in front of him about once a month
for two years.
Haggard
said he received a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a
Denver hotel, but Jones told MSNBC that Haggard always came to his
house.
Senior Pastor Ross Parsley, who stepped in as evangelist Ted Haggard's
replacement after the gay hustler scandal broke, said in a statement
Thursday that some of the accusations made by the gay escort against
Haggard were true.
Parsley sent out an email to parishioners of Haggard's New Life Church
in Colorado Springs Thursday, acknowledging some of the allegations made
by Mike Jones, who claims he had a three-year "sexual business"
relationship with the prominent pastor.
Haggard was one of the leaders in the campaign to constitutionally ban
gay marriage in Colorado as well as president of the multimillion-member
National Association of Evangelicals. He participated in weekly
conference calls with the White House and President George W. Bush.
Mike Jones claims Haggard paid him to have sex nearly every month for
three years. Jones said that he had advertised himself as an escort on
the Internet and that a man who called himself Art contacted him. Jones
said he later saw the man on television identified as Haggard.
