Gay Ex-Governor Talks to Oprah
TRENTON, NJ -- Former New Jersey Gov. James E.
McGreevey (bio),
who announced his homosexuality and his resignation in the same speech
two years ago, gave an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey Tuesday.
It has been quiet around McGreevey since he came out and admitted to
having an affair with another man but now the ex-governor opens up to
Oprah in a lengthy interview.
The interview will air on the "Oprah
Winfrey Show" on Sept. 19, the same day McGreevey's political memoir,
"The Confession," goes on sale.
According
to sources close to the former governor, Oprah landed the exclusive
interview because McGreevey is a fan of Winfrey's education and
anti-poverty work.
McGreevey publicly declared "I am a gay American," with his wife by his
side in 2004. The couple have since separated and McGreevey now lives
with his partner, Australian financial adviser Mark O'Donnell, 42.
