Gay Indian Prince Wants to Adopt
VADODARA, INDIA -- After first being disowned by his
royal family of Rajpipla, India, for being gay, Prince Manvendra Singh
Gohil, 40, has revealed that he is planning to adopt a child in an
effort to mend his relationship with his family.
The prince came out recently in a public announcement, becoming the
first member of any royal family to publicly disclose that he is gay.
"I came out as gay to a Gujarati daily because I wanted people to openly
discuss homosexuality since it's a hidden affair with a lot of stigma
attached," says Gohil.
Two months ago the prince's mother issued a statement asserting that he
was involved in activities that are "unsuitable in society". The 40-year
old prince's rights to properties in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and other
parts of the country, were cut off by his family.
His decision to adopt a child follows a recent effort by the family to
take him back into the family, according to the New India Press.
He has expressed a desire to adopt a teenage child to look after to
royal family. He has also suggested that he send the child abroad for
higher education.
