GLASGOW, UK -- Nine Scottish firefighters may get fired
from they jobs after refusing to hand out fire safety leaflets at the
Pride Scotia gay parade in Glasgow in June.
The officers could be fired, demoted or receive a disciplinary warning
for failing to carry out their duties. The outcome of the disciplinary
hearing will be clear later this weak.
The
firefighters stated different reasons for why they did not follow orders
from their superiors. Some said they refused to attend the march on
moral grounds, while others felt uncomfortable attending the event in
uniform.
Five of the firefighters had their cases heard last month. "The
remaining four firefighters who faced a disciplinary hearing concerning
the delivery of community safety advice at the recent Pride Scotia
festival in Glasgow had their cases heard yesterday," a spokesman for
Strathclyde fire and rescue said.
"All nine firefighters involved in this matter will be informed of the
result of their hearings by letter later this week."
