Superman's 'Not Gay,' Director Says
The director of the new Superman movie, Bryan
Singer, denies US media speculations that his new version of Superman is
gay. Observers claim that Singer, who directed the first two X-Men movies,
have made Superman less macho in the upcoming feature Superman Returns.
The
Man of Steel's sexuality has been debated in newspapers, magazines and on
the internet. Some gay fans are even so convinced about the superhero's
sexual orientation that they urge film and comic book makers to write his
sexuality into future storylines.
The Advocate published a feature examining the issue in their latest
edition, but Singer says his Superman probably is the most heterosexual
character in any movie he has ever made.
Some of the speculations may be rooted in how Superman is portrayed on
promotional posters. Also, Singer describes his version of Superman as a
"very romantic icon" - handsome, virtuous and vulnerable. The new Superman
is more in touch with his feelings, making him less of a 'traditional'
straight man.
