MIAMI, FL -- Miami Heat basketball superstar Shaquille
O'Neal helped police arrest a man who assaulted a gay couple Sunday.
O'Neal, who is working towards a career as a policeman once his basketball
career is over, witnessed a man yell anti-gay remarks before throwing a
bottle at a couple walking along South Beach around 3 a.m. Sunday, said
Bobby Hernandez, a spokesman for the Miami Beach Police Department.
"He flagged down the Miami Beach officer on duty there, and the officer
was able to apprehend the subject," Hernandez said.
"For this incident, I don't want to be credited as an individual who does
police work," O'Neal said in a statement. "I want to be credited as a
Miami Beach police officer."
