Gay Vanity Plates Permitted
PARK CITY -- A ruling by the Utah State Tax Commission
means that Utah drivers now can have their license plates personalized
with positive gay messages. In a recent ruling, the Utah State Tax
Commission states that it will approve three personalized plates with
gay-positive messages.
Back in December, Elizabeth Solomon applied for the plates that read: "Gay
We Go", "Gays R OK", and "Gay RYTS." The commission approved one of them
but denied the other two. So, the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah
represented Solomon in appealing the decision.
Solomon said she has kids who are gay and wanted the plates so she could
publicly express support for her children.
Personalized plates with positive gay messages are now allowed, as long as
the requested plates don't violate any statutory or regulatory
restrictions. [Back to News Headlines]
