Half of Americans Oppose Gay Marriage
BOSTON ()
-- Fifty percent of the respondents to a new poll done by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center for the Boston Globe said that they disapprove of gay and lesbian marriages, and that gay marriages performed in Massachusetts should not be recognized in their states.
The poll of 760 randomly selected adults also found that 37 percent approve of gay and lesbian
marriages, and that 11 percent are neutral.
Although the poll found that half of Americans disapprove of gay marriages, 46 percent of those surveyed said they support civil unions that would provide gay couples with "some, but not all of the legal rights of married couples." Forty-one percent opposed civil unions.
