Ian McKellen Crowns King Lear in Brooklyn
While gay actor
Ian McKellen has amassed fame and fortune for his turns in the
X-Men and Lord of the Rings series, he's also one of the
greatest living stage actors and interpreters of the classics.
So get thee to New York next year to see McKellen put his own spin on
Shakespeare's King Lear and Chekhov's The Seagull.
Both productions will make their world premieres in the U.K. in March
before coming to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in September.
Also at BAM in 2007 will be Edward Hall's all-male staging of
The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night in March.
Since the latter play involves a woman disguising herself as a man, a
male actor in the role will have to pull a total reverse of
Victor/Victoria.
